In collaboration with the Creative Writing Program at NYU Shanghai, this workshop will introduce you to ekphrastic poetry--poetry about art. Learn about ways to draw fresh inspiration from works of art, energizing your creative writing with new ideas, perspectives, and sensory detail.

We will meet in room 302 for a brief introduction to ekphrasis before heading down to the gallery in room 100, where we will explore the exhibition, try out some writing techniques, and spend the remainder of our time writing together about the art that surrounds us. Participants will also receive a free writing journal. RSVP required.

All discussions will be held in English.

Participation is limited to 15 people.

Open to the NYU Shanghai community only.

In conjunction with STRESSED HERMS, SWEAT, & PERIOD GAS., an exhibition by Candice Lin and Patrick Staff, on view through 19 December.

STRESSED HERMS, SWEAT, & PERIOD GAS. and its related events are presented as the third season of The (Invisible) Garden, a two-year artistic research program that inquires into the garden as a method that shapes our understanding of Nature and our relationships to other species. For four seasons, from Fall 2019 through Spring 2021, the ICA at NYU Shanghai will present artists, thinkers, and practitioners, through exhibitions and events, to consider the garden and ask how might we denature Nature?
