As an ecological and humanistic photographer, Out of Eden Walk collaborator Sun Xiaodong carefully observes the life cycle of silkworms and the diligent care of the Zhenze people, documenting the coalescence of each silk thread. Zhenze Ancient Town, located in Wujiang, Suzhou, is a historical silk-producing area in the Taihu Lake basin.
China, as the origin of sericulture, has accumulated centuries of exquisite skills in cultivating mulberry trees and silk farming. Beyond sericulture lies the Chinese people's reverence for life and the ancient wisdom of living in harmony with nature in a balanced way. Silk has not only enriched China's textile and clothing culture but also opened up the Silk Road of economic and cultural exchange between the East and West, with far-reaching influence to this day.
Using the "slow storytelling" method and spending time with silkworms, mulberry gardens, and silkworm farmers, Xiaodong records the story of people and nature. In this workshop, Xiaodong will share his experiences with applying the concepts and techniques of slow storytelling.
